The Samajwadi Party replaced Varanasi LS candidate and gave the ticket to Tej Bahadur Yadav, who is the same BSF jawan from the video. After the video went viral, he was dismissed from service in 2017. Tej Bahadur has already stood as an independent candidate but will now be contesting as the SP party. Prior in March, Tej Bahadur had first expressed his interest to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi. “I had raised the issue of corruption but I was sacked. My first objective will be to strengthen and eliminate corruption in the forces,” he said. In 2017, a video viral Tej Bahadur which turned viral after he asserted that low quality food was being served to security forces serving at the borders. He was then working in as a BSF constable of 29 Battalion at Mandi Mandir head quarters and was posted at the administration base in Khet close Line of Control in Poonch area. Varanasi will vote in the seventh stage of election on May 19 and the last date for filing nomination is Monday (April 29).
