New Delhi: Over 13.28 crore Permanent Account Numbers (PANs) have been connected with the Aadhaar till now, official sources today said.

With this, 39.5 for every penny of PANs are presently connected with Aadhaar numbers.

There are around 33 crore PAN cards, while Aadhaar has been issued to around 115 crore individuals.

The legislature had made the PAN-Aadhaar connecting obligatory for documenting ITR (Income Tax Return) and acquiring another Permanent Account Number (PAN) from July 1.

The Supreme Court had in June maintained the legitimacy of an Income Tax Act arrangement making Aadhaar required for assignment of PAN cards and ITR recording, however had put a halfway remain on its execution till a Constitution seat tended to the issue of appropriate to security.

The CBDT had in June this year said the zenith court’s request had just given a “halfway alleviation” to the individuals who did not have an Aadhaar or an Aadhaar enrolment ID, and the taxman, henceforth, “won’t scratch off” the PAN of such people.

While Aadhaar is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to an inhabitant of India, PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric number alloted by the I-T office to a man, firm or element.
