Police from the Puttur station on Monday charged an auto rickshaw driver driving school kids Rs 700, referring to two violations– conveying more than three travelers and not wearing a helmet. While at the same time the first infringement was obvious as the auto driver Vittala was shipping nine school kids, the second violation was not wearing a helmet. The challan issued by the police PTR – 94807159 peruses “without helmet” under the Nature of Offense section. Alarmed with their goof-up, the police are said to have recalled the receipt and made the correction. Be that as it may, when contacted, neither the police from Puttur Town, nor from Puttur Rural or Puttur Traffic agreed. Authorities at all three police stations kept up they were unaware about the episode.
