India raised tariffs on a slew of items in retaliation for the Us for imposing higher levies on few products shipped from the country, after steps taken by China, the European Union and other trading partners . Import duties on chickpeas and Bengal gram has been increased to 60%, where that on lentils has been hiked to 30%. Products like apple, pears, flat roll products of stainless steel ,other alloy steel, tube and pipe fittings and screw and volts have increased higher duties. An official from the Ministry Of Steel gave a statement that the duties were being raise to show displeasure on the U.S action. Some of the new rates will take effect immediately while some will be brought to effect from Aug 4.
